About

A licensed CPA firm built to do one thing well.

The Firm

Proteris CPA Advisory is a Florida-licensed Certified Public Accounting firm providing strategic financial leadership to growing businesses. We are not a bookkeeping firm that also gives advice, and we are not a consultancy that borrowed the language of finance. Strategic advisory is the entire practice.

That focus is deliberate. Financial record-keeping and financial leadership are different disciplines requiring different people, and firms that try to be excellent at both usually end up merely adequate at each. We chose one half and stay out of the other.

Sean Murray, CPA

Founder & Principal

Sean brings roughly three decades of finance and CFO leadership across private-equity-backed portfolio companies, owner-led businesses, and public company control environments. He has led finance functions through growth, through integration after acquisition, and through the diligence process on both sides of a transaction.

That range matters. The questions an owner faces at $15 million are not the questions a sponsor asks at $80 million, and the hard part is recognizing which set is actually in front of you. Sean has worked in both.

Sean has built the forecasts, defended the add-backs, negotiated with the lenders, and sat across the table from the diligence team. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant, and Proteris is a licensed CPA firm — which means professional responsibility for the work, not merely enthusiasm for it.

How We Work

Run your company like you’re going to sell it. It is the firm’s organizing idea, and it is practical rather than aspirational — the disciplines that make a company sellable are the same ones that make it well-run, and they pay for themselves long before any transaction.

We focus on decisions rather than deliverables. A beautiful report that doesn’t change what you do next is an expensive document. Every engagement is built to end with a recommendation somebody can act on, and we stay accountable for what happens after.

And we stay out of the accounting layer on purpose. Your bookkeeper, controller, or CPA keeps the records. We work above that, and we work with them.

Why Proteris

A licensed CPA firm

Professional responsibility for the advice and the analysis, professional standards, and Florida Board oversight. In the advisory market, that combination is uncommon — and it is exactly what a lender or a buyer’s advisors will eventually test.

A framework, applied with judgment

The principal is in the room. We run a disciplined framework - the same diagnostics, the same questions, engagement after engagement - because consistency is what keeps things from getting missed. Judgment is what tells you when the standard answer is the wrong one for your business. Analysis and modeling are supported by analysts and contract specialists under the principal's review, but the call and accountability stay with him.

The full arc

From ongoing advisory through value creation to the transaction itself. The advisor who has known your business for three years is the right one to prepare it for sale — and that continuity is worth more than any single engagement.

Let’s find out if we’re a fit.

A short conversation is usually enough to tell.
